A Little Sparkle, A Lasting Smile
Jocelyn L, a senior at Bay Port High School, reflects on how a senior lit up after getting their nails done during a GlamourGals visit.
Through my interactions with the seniors, I have learned the importance of active listening and really being present. One memorable conversation I had was with 90-year-old Janet and 100-year-old Bernice. When I asked Janet if she wanted her nails painted, she told me she wanted clear nail polish, the same as always. She introduced me to Bernice. My friend filed her nails down, and then I asked Bernice what color she wanted. She picked a sparkly magenta color, which was beautiful and matched her shirt. She kept repeating how pretty it was during our conversation. Even after I had finished painting her nails, she could not stop thanking me. I smiled as I left, feeling joy in having made someone’s day. Sometimes all people need is to feel seen.
