Growing through GlamourGals

Katy L, President of the Bay Port High School chapter, reflects on how GlamourGals allowed her to grow as an individual.

When I first joined GlamourGals my freshman year of high school, I did not think I would gain as many experiences and knowledge as I have. I remember during the first in-person visit I attended, I painted a 92-year-old’s nails. The conversation flowed easily, and I was able to learn so much about her life in a short period of time. In this moment, I remember not feeling any sense of fear or anxiety, and that’s when I knew I really enjoyed being a part of this club and imagined the great things that we could do in the future.

We have now added a craft that we do at our in-person visits, such as bracelets or a coloring sheet. Additionally, we have significantly increased our volunteer numbers to over 100 volunteers, and are looking into a second location for our in-person visits. Recently, we were recognized by our school district's board of education for our outstanding dedication and commitment to seniors in our community, which inspires conversation and builds connections. This was a really amazing thing for our chapter, as all of our members and I have worked so hard to get into the position we are in now. I will forever be grateful for what I have gotten out of the opportunity to be a member of Glamour Gals.
