Learning from Those Who Taught Before Us

Livia Y, a senior at Bay Port High School, reflects on how a GlamourGals visit allowed her to learn from the seniors.

My most memorable moment with a senior happened just a few weeks ago. I talked with a resident about her past job as an elementary school teacher, which is the same career I aspire to pursue. She shared both the joys and the hardships of being a teacher. Teaching and learning were much different during her time compared to what they are today, so it was fascinating to hear her perspective on the changing world.

This interaction had a strong impact on me. Her words, “Your classroom may have four walls, but your influence has no boundaries,” truly resonated with me. It reminded me that teaching lessons is not the most important part of being a teacher. What matters most is who you are as a person and how you treat the students you teach.
